- Finish up using all the paper towels in your home or business. Remove dispensers to avoid the habit of reaching for them. Figure out a place in each area of your home or business to put cloth towels. In the home, find a place in the kitchen, the bathroom and the garage or utility room. Preferably, choose a place to put the towels that is out of sight as many of the towels will become dirty over time.
- For a business, purchase new towels from a supermarket or distributor. For a home, consider making towels out of cloth that is already slightly deteriorated and not being used much anymore. Good options include bath towels, old T-shirts, and bed sheets with rips or holes in them. Tear or cut the cloth into similar sizes with a pair of scissors, or cut a small and a large size to use for different purposes.
- Once used, place the cloth towels into the washing machine. Add bleach and wash in hot water. Towels may not come clean entirely. Rest assured that they are clean and can be reused as such.
- Throw the cloth towels away when they are no longer useful, are tattered or torn up badly, or are so dirty they bother you.
