For instance if you wanted to have a hair transplant you have to undergo a surgical procedure that involves cutting skin with growing hair from the back of the head and having it grafted to the top; not only does this sound painful but price wise you are looking at between $3 and $10 per graft and the average number of grafts is between 500 and 2000.
The other alternative that had been commonly used is prescription medication.
This too has its drawbacks as it is designed to reduce testosterone production and because of this it has a possible side effect of leaving a man impotent.
Fortunately, research has found that there is another way of preventing hair loss, but before we cover that lets have a quick look at how hair loss actually occurs so that we can understand why this new treatment works.
Your body produces a hormone called testosterone and some of this is in your bloodstream; your body also produces and enzyme called 5 alpha reductase and when these two combine they create a new chemical which is known as DHT.
Now everybody has DHT in them, but some people are genetically receptive to this chemical in their scalp, and when that is the case the DHT will attach to the hair follicle and thin it out until it no longer produces hair.
What has been found is that by applying an FDA approved product called Minoxidil to the scalp can actually stop the DHT reaching the follicle.
Now if this was not good news on its own it has also been found that by taking a blend of minerals and herbs along with it you can make the treatment even more potent.
The reason for this is because this blend can actually prevent as much DHT being produced in the first place, which of course means less of it for the minoxidil to catch.
The minerals and herbs that are used for preventing hair loss are as follows:-
- Saw Palmetto - Known for its properties for maintaining a healthy prostate, it has now been found to reduce production of 5 alpha reductase meaning less prostatic DHT.
- Nettle Root - This herb helps prevent there being too much testosterone in the bloodstream, however this is not done by reducing production so no adverse side effects
- Zinc - As well as being an essential mineral for the growth of healthy hair zinc also inhibits the production of 5 alpha reductase.
Additionally there are also certain minerals and herbs that taken in conjunction can encourage new hair growth and they are vitamin B6, biotin and magnesium.
