Things for the Groom to Do Before the Wedding Ceremony

    Consult the Planner

    • Not all weddings are the same, so one groom may have different responsibilities than another one does. The planner should have all your duties written down for the day of the wedding. Find him and double check his list to ensure you have all your duties close at hand. For example, it may be your responsibility to carry the ring. Ask for a copy of the checklist to ensure you have written confirmation of your duties close at hand for review when the time comes.

    Groom Yourself

    • It’s true that most of the wedding guests will have eyes for the bride, but that doesn’t mean you can look like a cave man. Shave any errant hairs from your face and do something to style your hair. There’s no shame in a man visiting a hairstylist, especially so he looks presentable for his wedding day. Schedule a hair care appointment ahead of time to get pampered before the ceremony. Take care of your physical hygiene as well. Take a brisk shower before styling yourself and apply some deodorant. Go the extra mile and spritz yourself with the cologne your future wife loves.

    Tux Retrieval

    • You don’t want to walk down the aisle in jeans and sneakers, so allot plenty of time for retrieval of your tux. Try it on in the rental place to ensure it fits properly. Ask for a different size if you find it’s too tight or loose in places. When you arrive at the wedding hall, allow your mother and other maternal figures to fuss over your outfit and straighten it out. It’s an iconic moment in the wedding when a mother attaches your boutonniere and your father helps you with your tie. These are opportune moments for photos as well, so bear with it.

    Entertain Guests

    • If you stick with tradition, it is understood that the bride will be out of sight until the moment she walks down the aisle. The groom, however, is free to roam the wedding hall well before the wedding begins. Talk with your friends and family. Accept their kind words and let them soothe you for the upcoming ceremony. Chances are you feel nervous, but talking with old friends and family can help tame anxiety through familiarity. Take this time to check the decorations as well to ensure the altar and aisles meet with your approval.
