    • Authentic Indian cuisine is traditionally prepared in a tandoor, a clay oven heated by charcoal. Chicken, lamb and seafood are the meats traditionally offered in Indian dishes. The cow is sacred to Indian culture. Beef is not served in Indian restaurants; however, milk is used in beverages, desserts and creams.

    Bombay House

    • The founders of Bombay House are natives of India. They opened two locations of the restaurant--in Salt Lake City and Provo. The Bombay House has been awarded several state and area titles including Salt Lake 2008 Dining Awards winner and first place for The Best of Utah County 08-09.

      Lamb, chicken and shrimp entrees are accompanied with ginger, onion and garlic spiced sauces. A dessert selection features kulfi---homemade ice cream with pistachios and cardamom seeds, and gulab jamun---a ball-like pastry in syrup and sprinkled with coconut. Soft drinks, juices and yogurt and milk beverages are served alongside beer and wine.

    • Royal India is a fine dining restaurant with locations in Sandy and Bountiful. It has been acknowledged by Zagat Survey with a 24 out of 30 rating and has been rated the Best Restaurant in Utah by "Salt Lake" magazine. The chefs accommodate changes or requests to the menu and offer vegetarian and vegan meal options.

      The menu has extensive sections of authentic India cuisine. Tandoor Delights are marinated meat cooked in the clay ovens and served on sizzling platters. Bread, such as peshwari---coconut, cashews and raisins, and poori---a deep fried whole wheat bread, are also baked in a tandoor. Raitha, homemade yogurt that contains carrots, cilantro and onions, is a popular side dish.

    • The Star of India is a restaurant that features a lunch buffet, full bar, and an on-site movie room with a big screen featuring Bollywood movies.

      Appetizers range from cheese pakoras, coated with spices and deep fried, to meat samosa, a ground lamb and pea turnover. Vegetarian dishes substitute the flavor of meat with potatoes, raisins, nuts, cheese and beans. Bengan bhartha is broiled then mashed eggplant, onions and tomatoes seasoned with herbs and spices.
