- 1). Shampoo and condition hair with extra-moisturizing products. Straightening your hair requires heat-styling tools and can be potentially damaging to your hair and scalp.
- 2). Tie hair back with a ponytail holder or secure clip, pulling out one two-inch section of hair at a time. Apply a small amount of straightening product, such as a gel or serum, to each section before you dry it.
- 3). Use a sturdy round brush with coarse bristles to dry hair in sections. Pull hair straight and angle the hair dryer down towards the hair. Spray hair with water if the sections start to air-dry before you get to them with the hair dryer.
- 4). Using a heated flat iron, go back over hair in small, two-inch sections, carefully clamping hair between the iron plates and running it from roots to ends.
- 5). Lightly mist hair with hairspray to hold the style. Optionally, smooth hair down with a shine serum or spray to avoid dull-looking strands.
