- 1). Absorb fresh ammonia with several paper towels until you can absorb no more liquid. Dispose of the ammonia in a trashcan.
- 2). Moisten a clean cloth in cool water. Wipe the hardwood with the damp cloth. Dry with a towel.
- 3). Dampen a cloth in pure white vinegar. Wipe the hardwood with the vinegar and let air dry. Vinegar naturally removes odors from hard and soft surfaces. Repeat the process or continue with the remaining steps if the ammonia odor remains.
- 4). Dissolve 1/2 cup of baking soda in 1/2 gallon of cool water. Wipe the hardwood with a cloth dampened in the baking soda mixture. Baking soda is an inexpensive, all-natural deodorizer.
- 5). Remove the baking soda mixture off the hardwood by wiping the surface clean with a cloth dampened in water. Dry the hardwood with a towel.
