- 1). Cut a large rectangle out of tag board to the desired dimensions according to the room available in the classroom. Use a ruler to make a straight edge.
- 2). Draw a horizontal line 3 inches down from the top, using a ruler to make a straight line. This is where you will write the name of each month as it occurs after the paper is laminated.
- 3). Leave a couple of inches below the horizontal line, and make a square grid that is seven boxes across and seven boxes down. In the first row of boxes, write the days of the week, or abbreviations for the days.
- 4). Make small shapes out of construction paper for the days of the week. You can cut out simple shapes, like circles or triangles, or more inventive ones, such as flowers and cat faces. Make the day counters all one color, or alternate the colors to teach the children about patterns. Write the numbers one through 31, one number per day counter.
- 5). Place a piece of tape flat on the back of each day counter so the non-adhesive side faces out and creates an area on which to adhere a small amount of removable adhesive. This can be removed easily when the month is over and can be reused.
- 6). Use a laminating machine to laminate the calendar. Leave a 1/2-inch margin of plastic around the perimeter of the calendar and cut off the rest.
- 7). Write the name of the month using a dry-erase marker. As the month goes on, add a day counter, adhering the removable adhesive to the back of the counters so they will stick. At the end of the month, remove the counters and erase the name of the month.
