- 1). Take the measurements of the person who will wear the jeans. You will need to measure waist, hips, length from the waist to the ankle and inseam.
- 2). Buy jeans-grade denim. Your measurements should help you determine how much fabric you need to buy. You can buy denim in any color, but indigo is the traditional blue jean color.
- 3). Buy a jeans sewing pattern. Any kind of pattern for pants can be used to make jeans, but a jeans sewing pattern will make the process easier. You can find jeans patterns at fabric and sewing stores.
- 4). Wash and dry your fabric before you use it. This will preshrink the denim so that your jeans won't shrink once they are made.
- 5). Look up the correct pattern size on the pattern's sizing chart. You will find the correct pattern size by using the measurements taken. Cut out the jean pattern at that size. If you don't want jeans that are fitted, you can add 1 inch all around and you will have a loose fit to your jeans.
- 6). Cut out your denim and sew according to the directions on the jeans pattern. Use the pattern to cut out your fabric. The pattern will also walk you through the process of assembling the pieces.
