How to Troubleshoot a Lowrance X50 DS

    • 1). Check the power cable connection to the back of the X50 DS, if it does not turn on when you press the "Power" button. If the cable is connected properly, examine the cable to ensure there is no damage. Check the connection to the battery, making sure that the black wire is connected to the negative terminal and that the red wire is connected to the positive terminal. If the device still does not power on, you may have a dead battery.

    • 2). Move the power and transducer cables away from the motor or any other accessories you may have on your boat, if the X50 DS is operating erratically or if the screen freezes. Noise from these objects causes the device to work improperly. Check the connections to the device from these cables to ensure they are properly connected and there is no damage to them.

    • 3). Move to an area that is more shallow than your current location, if you are not seeing a bottom or fish on-screen. If the water is too deep, the device cannot get a good reading. If this still does not help, check the transducer to ensure it is clear of debris and that it is facing straight down.

    • 4). Move the boat to less turbulent water, if you are still having issues picking up fish on the radar. You must be in smooth flowing water for the device to operate properly and you cannot be moving too fast. Use a trolling motor instead of your standard motor to move slower and smoother in the water.
