- 1). Create the design that you will be putting on the softball shirt. You can draw it out on a piece of scratch paper if you want, but even if the design is only in your head, by planning it out beforehand you will know if you need a stencil or if you can paint it freehand. Remember that the front of a softball shirt has buttons that won't take the paint very well, so any design for the front of the shirt should fit between or around the buttons.
- 2). Place the softball shirt over the shirt board. Make sure the area you are going to work on is completely flat. If you are airbrushing the front of the shirt, button it up and make sure the two sides are lined up or the image will be skewed when the shirt is worn.
- 3). Tape the sleeves to the underside of the board so that they are safe from any potential overspray. If the shirt has any softball league patches on the side you are working on, make sure to tape those up with masking tape.
- 4). Use the airbrush to paint your design on the softball shirt. First paint anything that will be in the background as your foreground objects can be painted over them.
- 5). Put the finished shirt on a flat surface where it can sit for a few minutes after being heat-sealed.
- 6). Cover the design with parchment paper. This lets you heat-seal the shirt without damaging the image.
- 7). Set the temperature of your iron at 300 degrees, or as close as your iron can get, and run it over your design for two minutes. Remember to always keep the iron moving.
