As we are all well aware of, there are physical consequences caused by acne.
But more than those obvious red bumps on your face, there are other consequences of acne that can not be healed by any cream or ointment.
These consequences are the emotional scars left by acne.
And no doctor or expert dermatologist can provide you with the best answers to these emotional after effects of acne.
Acne is very common among teenagers, though adults can be affected as well.
For teenagers, however; experiencing the pains of acne, it can be very difficult to face the social impacts of acne.
Left, are the marks of shame, depression and even self-pity as a young person grows from a teenager into an adult.
As a parent of a teenager who faces an acne problem then, you are his greatest supporter.
What can you do? You can do a lot.
Remind your child that acne is temporary As a guardian, you need to be there and give encouragement to your child.
You will probably see your teenager disheartened due to the way his peers may be tormenting him with criticisms and insults.
Saying that the taunting will not last for long and that the torment can be successfully overcome will help, but more importantly, your teenager needs to know that you love him unconditionally in spite of his acne.
Continue to encourage your child by explaining the importance of moving on in spite of the negative reactions from others, as the words others use do more emotional harm than good, and the effects of such words are not immediately obvious.
Most of all, teach your teenager to forgive others just as God forgives all those who humbly seek Him out and ask His forgiveness.
The true God, is a forgiving, kind and merciful God, teach your teenager to act likewise.
William Arthur Ward, author of Fountains of Faith and one of America's most quoted writers of inspirational maxims said, "Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hate.
It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness.
" Forgiving is tough, but its benefits are enormous.
Bring your teen to a good dermatologist Do not wait for your teen's acne problem to worsen before you see a dermatologist.
The earlier the better, this may be cliché but very true for this matter and you could realize the truth behind this.
You need to find the dermatologist who deserves your trust.
Accompany your teen as when you visit the dermatologist.
Also, remind your teen, as needed, to follow the recommendations and instructions of the dermatologist.
Guide your child to do the right things There are some activities and foods that worsen acne.
While a parent should avoid nagging their teenager, when you see your teenager involved in an inappropriate activity or eating foods that worsen their acne, you need to gently bring it to their attention, clearing explaining the effects that their chosen activity or food can have on their acne problem and be sure to answer any questions that your teenager may have concerning it.
Boost your teen's self-confidence A teenagers self-confidence plunges when they are teased and mocked due to their acne condition.
The effect of this torment on your teen could be bitter.
Be there for your teen to boost their self-esteem, and reassure your teenager of your unconditional love.
Yes, unconditional love is true love and is also know a agape love.
It is this love that Jesus spoke about to his Apostles when he said, "...
Love each other as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.
" (John 15:12-13, NIV) So, love your teen unconditionally.
Be generous with praises yet, make sure your praises are sincere.
Compliment your teen on his talents.
Doing so will be a lift to his spirit.
You are the parent, and you can help your teen feel better about himself while enabling him to overcome the misjudgments society places on those with acne.
Your teenager is going through a stage in life and it would surely come to an end.
Be there and support your child like no one else can and you both will be strengthened as a result.
