- 1). Push a de-thatching rake into the soil where the creeping Charlie is located. Pull the rake up toward you until it is free of the soil. The de-thatching rake tines will go into the soil about 2 inches and will pull up the creeping Charlie. Continue raking up the weed until it is all free from the soil.
- 2). Collect the creeping Charlie and dispose of it in the garbage. If you want to prevent the weed from returning, seed the bare area with grass seed or another shade-loving plant to crowd out the creeping Charlie.
- 3). Mow your lawn. Do not remove more than 1/3 of the grass height when you mow. This allows the grass to develop a stronger root system, resulting in a healthier lawn that more easily shades out weeds like creeping Charlie.
- 4). Rake up the grass clippings, or empty the collection bag on your lawn mower. Spread the grass clippings over the area you want to cover with mulch. Make the mulch layer no thicker than 1 inch. This allows the clippings to dry without causing oxygen deprivation to the soil.
