How to Get a Hairpin Out of a Vacuum

    • 1). Spread out a large layer of old newspapers to protect your floor from the dirt that will spill during this process. Perform all the operations on top of the paper.

    • 2). Unplug the vacuum cleaner and turn the head upside down. Spin the brush gently, searching in between the bristles while it turns. Pull out the hairpin if you find it lodged in the brush.

    • 3). Open the bag and empty it onto the newspaper, if your vacuum has a bag. If your machine is bagless, empty the dirt cup onto the paper.

    • 4). Tie a magnet onto a 2-foot piece of string. Dangle the magnet over and through the dirt from the cup. If your hairpin is hiding in the dirt the magnet picks it up and holds it, eliminating the need to sift through the dirt with your hands.

    • 5). Drop the magnet into the hose that connects the vacuum head and the bag together. Your hairpin may be stuck in one of the bends in the hose and the magnet will capture it. Draw the magnet out slowly by tugging on the string.
