- 1). Mix 1 cup of detergent with 1 gallon of water. Soak a rag in the solution and clean your dirty grout. Look for black and discolored regions.
- 2). Scour the grout that stubbornly refuses to turn back to its original color. Add more cleaning solution to the scouring pad to ease the process. Try not to scour too hard against the tile, though, or you may inadvertently leave ugly scratches.
- 3). Look for any cracks in the grout. Cut these areas away with a grout saw to make room for more grout. Dig the grout saw blade into the grout and press firmly in a back and forth motion to strip away the grout. Clean out any last bits of grout in the crevice with a utility knife.
- 4). Mix the powdered grout with water in the ratio indicated on the packaging. Pour a bit of the mixture into the crevice and smooth and pack the grout in with the grout float. Scrape away any grout that won't go into the crevice.
- 5). Clean off any grout still clinging to the tiles that won't go into the crevice while it hasn't fully dried with sponge. This ensures the tiles are clean and shining when you finish.
