The United States of America has many faces. A trip to Massachusetts allows us to see the synthesis of various aspects of the United States of America and the mix of modernity and tradition that marks them forever.
Boston, in this sense, is exemplary. Main gateway to the region of New England, it is the oldest city in the United States.
In this city the architectural and engineering innovation coexist beautifully with an urban dating back over 350 years ago.
The large pedestrian zones, green areas and public services system are the result of planning respectful citizens. The shuttle service that connects the Logan International Airport with the city waterfront is an obvious example.
The first impression you feel just arrived in Boston is a city that is truly on a human scale, in spite of its size. You drive safely on foot, perhaps in a "cocholate tour" improvised entering in the numerous bars and restaurants dedicated (Boston is the City of Chocolate), or listening to good blues played in some local or even on the streets.
In the beautiful public gardens you can find the Swan Boat, boats swan, another symbol of the city.
From Common Park, the central garden, the eye can move from the river to skyscrapers and even the Blue Hills, admiring the almost perfect coexistence between nature and the built environment.

Right in front of Boston, over the Charles River, Cambridge is Old. It includes the village of Newthorne, created by the founders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630.
The buildings are rooted in the history of Cambridge, witnessed the development of a primitive village into a cosmopolitan community that has two of the world's most prestigious educational institutions (Cambridge and MIT) and combines cafes, bookshops and boutiques in a dosed combination. Walking through the streets of Cambridge can be reached Harvard Square, admire the colorful towers of the university, meet street artists, listen to jazz and blues in clubs and at the same time enjoy the experience of virtual reality in the largest cybercafe in the U.S. without a try though any feeling of discomfort or frastornamento.
Everything coexists perfectly.
From Boston, in the car, you can reach Salem, the city haunted. It too is a mix of important historical landmarks and attractions related to Halloween folklore and facts relating to the Salem witch hunts of 1692. Although the architectural beauty of style Federal Style mansions are the pride of Salem, worth be fascinated by visiting the Museum of Witches with its stages and its life-size figures.
Always in the car you can reach the oldest port of America, Glouchester. It affects primarily for its scenic beauty and is not a case that has inspired artists from the beginning of the 19th century until today. The port can still be seen moored fishing boats by hand, the old Scholer. From here you can also experience the exciting sighting of whales and there is a small information center on large cetaceans.
Continuing along the coast, you can find lots of harbors, bays, loops, tiny villages where you can stop to enjoy a hot tea maybe in front of a beautiful sunset, surrounded by the typical landscape of New England, to arrive at Rockport, a city of granite and a colony of artists.
A Rockport you can walk up to the tip of Bearskin Neck and admire from there all the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean.
If you look up and you see the balloons floating in the sky, they come from Greenfield, the capital of Franklin County, in the Green River Music and Balloon Festival.
Greenfield has a colorful downtown, lined with shops where you can find many traditional craft products. The invaluable experience remains the visit to the museum houses 11 dell'Historic Deerfield Village and exploration of hundreds of years of history through a walk of about a mile.
Just two hours by car from Boston to reach Pittsfield and here you have the feeling of being in a world that combine the tradition and the origins of the rural life enriched by museums, art collections and music. Not surprisingly, the Berkshire, the region where Pittsfield is located, is considered a sort of cultural mecca.
The urban heart of Northampton is a vibrant center of life, with its museums, clubs, art galleries, theaters, beautiful parks and green areas for walking. As read on a fashion blog the whole city has a very stylish design. In many feature films (from Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf Malice to name a few), it is difficult to be fascinated by the fact that on those streets and in those bars have stayed hand in hand, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton when they were still.
Massachusetts is rural life, yes, but with a touch of sophistication, with all that culture, art, business and academic life can offer.
From Boston to Northampton is always breathe this air.
