How to Block the Glare on Windows With Paper

    • 1). Cut all of your paper types to match the size of your window panes. The paper should fit exactly in the panes, so make sure your cuts are straight and even. If your windows are large, single-pane windows, you don't need to cut your paper. Just add the paper measurements to find out how many pieces of paper you'll need to cover them. For instance, a window 10 inches tall and 18 inches wide needs two sheets of paper with 1 inch cut off the bottom of each.

    • 2). Create treatments that diffuse the light but still let some natural light in, especially for discomfort glare. Wax paper and translucent vellum paper work well. If you don't have vellum, onion-skin and tissue paper make suitable replacements.

    • 3). Sharpen a few crayons in a manual pencil sharpener. Arrange some dried, pressed leaves or flowers on a piece of wax paper. Scatter the crayon shavings over the paper; try not to get many on your leaves and flowers.

    • 4). Place a second piece of wax paper over the first. Lay a paper towel on top, and iron the paper sandwich on the "cotton" setting without steam. Repeat until you have enough panels to cover your window. Let the paper cool overnight.

    • 5). Apply watercolor to vellum or a vellum substitute. Watercolor markers leave clean, bright marks behind. Draw Chinese symbols, stripes, polka dots, stars or other designs; or combine the panels with your wax paper by drawing butterflies, bees and flowers. Allow the paper to dry overnight.

    • 6). Cut rice paper to size to eliminate disability glare. This fibrous, lacy paper will glow in the sunlight but will keep most of the bright light out of the room. Mix and match colors to create modern "stained glass."

    • 7). Tape each of your treatments to your window panels with double-sided tape. Apply the tape to the edges of the paper and press them into the windows.
