- 1). Trace an outline of your child's foot onto paper to create a pattern for your moccasins. Leave about 1 inch between his heels and between your outline and the edge of the paper.
- 2). Draw a line down the center of your pattern to divide it into a left half and a right half. Draw another curved line around your child's toes, leaving half an inch between the toes and the line.
- 3). Draw flaps on both halves of your pattern to make the top portion of your moccasins. The flaps should extend out about 6 inches or so starting at the bottom of the toes and going down to the heel. The flaps will need to be long enough to meet over your child's foot when the pattern is cut out. Measure this space before you cut out the pattern to be sure you have drawn long enough flaps.
- 4). Cut out the pattern.
- 5). Transfer the pattern onto leather. Remember, the pattern makes just one moccasin.
- 6). Cut out the leather.
- 7). Fold the leather in half so that the flaps meet.
- 8). Stitch the moccasin closed. Start at the toes and sew the two sides together, leaving enough room for your child to slip his foot in. The flaps should not be sewn together as they form the ankle portion of the moccasin, where your child puts his foot in.
- 9). Sew the heel together.
