How to Teach a Parrot to Laugh

    • 1). Use a parrot's favorite food to entice it to mimic any sound. To get the parrot to laugh present the food and laugh, let the parrot take the food and do it again. Many parrots will catch on to this quickly and begin laughing on cue.

    • 2). Try an exaggerated laugh around the parrot. Parrots are interested in sounds they don't hear every day. Repeat the laugh every day until the bird begins to chuckle to itself. The parrot is more interested in how something sounds.

    • 3). Add a phrase or sound as a cue before you laugh to create an association. Parrots often have triggers, which is why they can learn to answer questions or always say hello when someone enters the room.

    • 4). Train during the mornings and evenings when parrots naturally talk, as this is the best time for them to learn and they will try sounds they find interesting and fun. Training can take place at any time of the day, but early and late hours produce better results.

    • 5). Present a high-pitched laugh, which is easier for the parrot to reproduce and holds more interest for the bird. Use a recorded laugh during training times if you're unable to work with the parrot on occasion.
