- 1). Look in the yellow pages for bookstores. Ignore major chains like Barnes & Noble and Borders that you know don't sell used books. Circle all local bookshops.
- 2). Call local bookshops and ask them if they buy used books. This is generally more efficient than merely searching online, as many used bookstores will only buy certain types of books. By calling them, you find out what types of books they're interested in and what their book-buying policies are---information that most used bookshops don't put on their websites.
- 3). Decide whether you want cash or credit. Most used bookstores offer both options. You will almost always be offered a higher amount in store credit than you will in cash.
- 4). Consider selling your books online. This might take a bit longer, but it gives you the ability to set your own prices, whereas used bookstores will only offer to pay a certain amount. Websites such as Amazon, Ebay and Craigslist are all viable options for selling used books.
