Choose an appropriately sized screw extractor for the rounded deck screws. An extractor sized for a number 10 screw works best for most deck screws. - 2

Install the screw extractor into the drill-driver chuck. Tighten the chuck in the same manner as if installing a regular drill-bit. - 3). Switch the drill into reverse and place the extractor into the screw head. The more weight applied to the screw, the better the extractor will bite into the screw material. This will take some experimenting to determine the right amount of pressure to apply. Too much pressure will break off the tip of the extractor.
- 4). Engage the drill in a slow to medium speed and allow the extractor to dig into the screw. When it catches, the screw will back out normally.
