- Graduated from the same suburban Toronto high school as former Dodgers relief pitcher Eric Gagne.
- Martin was drafted by the Dodgers in the 17th round in 2002, 511th overall.
- Ascended one step in the minors each season, hitting 15 home runs at Single-A Vero Beach, .311 at Double-A Jacksonville and .297 in 23 games at Triple-A Las Vegas before getting called up to the Dodgers.
