As you read this golf tip, please keep in mind that it may not apply to your unique needs.
Always consult with your local PGA professional before attempting to apply any golf tip you have read from a newspaper, magazine, book, internet, your 20 handicap brother-in-law, etc.
Accountability- Legendary athletes like Troy Aikman, George Foreman, and Tiger Woods have all agreed that being held accountable by their coach or coaches, who monitored their statistics, analyzed film of their performance, and tracked their progress, they would never have reached the levels of success they did.
Questioned and Challenged- Your coach will act as an outsider by being objective and frank.
He can ask provocative questions that force you to defend your ideas.
There is value if you can and value if you can't.
Listened To- A lot of golfers have no one to talk to about their swings or personal matters...
who will listen without any agenda.
Golfers, at times, can talk their way into a great answer by having a coach listen to their issues.
Having a coach with life and golf experience relevant to your own, who is personally successful, who can relate to you and who you can relate to is extremely beneficial.
Being Recognized For Your Achievements- Everyone needs recognition and celebration- but to whom can the golfer brag? Certainly not his competitors.
Most of the other golfers will actually disapprove of what's working, even if they are grudgingly aware of the results.
And often, if the golfer takes home the scorecard showing a new best score to the wife and kids, he gets a very disinterested response.
A "that's nice, dear" - not a "holy crap! Three strokes better than your last record! You're a genius! Where can I get results like that?" Having a knowledgeable coach gives the golfer an appreciative audience who "gets it", who understands the tremendous value of the accomplishments, and is able and willing to celebrate the achievements because they are secure in their own success.
Being Accepted- Many successful golfers are actually quite dysfunctional in one way or another.
They think and talk differently than almost everyone around them in their day to day lives.
In many instances they can't even explain what they do to 'civilians'.
Feeling like "the fish out of water" most of a successful golfers waking hours are not all that pleasant.
That is why having a coach with like minded values is so invigorating.
One of the core human needs is to be accepted for how you are, without need of mask or cautious editing of expressed thought.
Being Motivated- Regardless of money, birdies, and trophies, ultimately all motivation is self-motivation.
But there are definitely contributions made by others.
Why else would coaches of the top paid athletes award game balls?
