How to Make a Homemade Birdfeeder

    • 1). Use the jigsaw to cut a base for the bird feeder from the ¾-inch thick pine board. You can make a round or square base. The pictured feeder has a round base with a 6-inch diameter. If a square base is used, it should be 6 inches long by 6 inches wide.

    • 2). Drill a 3/16-inch hole in the center of the board and the center of the bottom of the empty 2-liter bottle.

    • 3). Cut five evenly spaced holes near the bottom of the 2-liter bottle to allow the seed to drop out. The holes should be about ½ inch in diameter. Using a small sharp knife, such as an X-acto knife, is best, but be aware that this plastic is very tough in the bottom of the bottle so use care.

    • 4). Attach the 2-liter bottle to the base using one 1-inch by 10x32 machine screw. Put the screw through the 3/16-inch hole in the bottle bottom and then the hole in the center of the board. Place the nut on the screw and tighten.

    • 5). Drill a 3/16-inch hole through the center of the cap. Put a piece of wire through the cap and bend it over to prevent its pulling back through the cap. Form a loop on the outside of the cap to hang the feeder.

    • 6). Fill the feeder with seed. Screw the cap on and hang the feeder.
