How to Remove a Stain From Oak Wood

    • 1). Wipe the stained spot with a cloth soaked in denatured alcohol to remove any grease prior to bleaching.

    • 2). Bring 2 quarts of water to a near boil. Add to 8 ounces of oxalic acid crystals, and mix well.

    • 3). Use a broad brush, such as an old house painting brush, to apply the dissolved oxalic acid mixture to the stain. Then rinse the spot very well with distilled water. Blot dry, and allow to dry overnight.

    • 4). Use sandpaper on any remaining stain. To avoid gouging or removing more wood than necessary, be gentle as you rub the sandpaper over the wood.

    • 5). Restain the affected wood.
