- 1). Scan the star map for the southern circumpolar region. Locate your skymarks on the star map so that you can quickly identify the constellations when you are in the field.
- 2). Look into the sky and locate the South Pole. Find Octant and look beyond it see either The Toucan or The Peacock. Once you have located both of these constellations, look for the grouping of stars right between them. This is the location for The Indian.
- 3). Find the central star of The Indian and look for the three legs that are all equally spaced around the central star. You can also have a great view of the Corona Australis.
