International Masters Scholarships

    The Oslo Peace Scholarship

    • The Australian National University and the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo, co-sponsor the Oslo Peace Scholarship. The scholarship is for full-time students of the Master of International Affairs specializing in the Peace and Conflict Studies program. ANU in Canberra and Bjørknes College in Oslo, Norway, are the joint program venues. Qualifying candidates need a very good four-year bachelor's degree in social sciences or humanities or a very good three-year bachelor's degree, plus a work record that reflects capacity for analysis and research. Applicants must provide a statement of interest that explains why they suit the program and vice versa, two academic references, one professional reference and transcripts. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition and a stipend in Oslo and Canberra but not travel or other expenses. As at 2011, the scholarship in Canberra comprised AUD 6,200, paid as a stipend every other week, and AUD13,008 for international students' tuition, totally equivalent to about US $19,769. In Oslo, stipend and tuition payments were respectively NOK 30,000 and 42,000, or totally approximately USD $12,870.

    The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship

    • The Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) is a pioneer women's society founded by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in 1869. The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship is an annual, full-time graduate studies award applicable to a degree program in the U.S. or Canada. The scholarship philosophy is that education is integral to world peace. The award is for women worldwide, except for citizens of the U.S. and Canada. Students enrolled in a college or university for the full school year and with a year of coursework remaining are eligible. Applications have to include confirmation of admission to a college or university, the graduate degree program, and the candidate's projected funds and expenses for the period of studies. An eligible applicant must complete and sign a witnessed agreement to return to her own country within 60 days of completing the degree program. Failure to comply with this agreement requires the student to repay the amount of the scholarship. As at 2010, the maximum value of the scholarship for 12 months of study was $10,000.

    Rotary World Peace Scholarships

    • The Rotary Foundation sponsors World Peace Scholarships. The scholarships are tenable at the Rotary Centers for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution, which partner with and operate at leading universities worldwide. Studies focus on solutions to war, famine, poverty and disease, which obstruct world cooperation and peace. The scholarships are masters degree fellowships awarded annually. The program seeks applicants strongly committed to international understanding and peace, at least three years' relevant work experience, proficiency in a second language and strong leadership skills. Recipients are considered to be individuals likely to have a positive impact on world peace and conflict resolution. As of 2011, the scholarship program selected 70 world peace scholars annually for the two-year masters program. The scholarship value is undisclosed.     SIT Peace Fellowship

    • World Learning's School for International Training Graduate Institute offers the SIT Peace Fellowship, aimed at the pursuit of peace through greater cross-cultural understanding. Applicants need at least three years of peace-related experience to be eligible for this award, which covers tuition and room and board. Recipients share their professional experience with the academic community in presentations and seminars. Financial need is the basic criterion for scholarships, grants and financial assistance, which vary according to the individual applicant.
