- 1). Use your screwdriver to attach the side bracket of your flat rod hardware to the wall 2 to 6 inches outside of your window sill. You may want to position this bracket 3 or 4 inches above the top of the window to give a heightened appearance to the room.
- 2). Adjust the side bracket by pulling it out 3 or 4 inches so that the balloon curtains will stand out from the wall. The stiffer your fabric, the more you will want to extend the side bracket.
- 3). Thread the flat rod through your balloon curtain. Typically you will have one long curtain that is two to three times longer than the width of your window. Hang onto the rod so that it remains accessible for installation.
- 4). Snap the ends of the flat rod into the side bracket that you have installed on your walls. Once the rod is secure, pull the fabric on each side to cover the bracket. Adjust the gathers of the entire curtain so that they are evenly spaced along the front of the curtain.
- 5). Bunch up about 2 yards of netting into a loose ball. Push it into the middle of the curtain. Repeat this until the curtain is filled with netting and has a pleasing, plush appearance. Use less netting for a softer look and more netting for a fuller, rounder look.
