- 1). Measure the room where you want to create an emphasis on easy gaming entertainment. Transfer your measurements to 1/4-inch graph paper. Include doorways, door swings, windows, niches, features and built-ins.
- 2). Draw representations of the furniture you usually use in the room. Use a furniture template and make the furniture 1/4 scale to match your floor plan. Cut out your paper furniture representations with scissors.
- 3). Position your furniture starting with your largest piece of furniture. Keep in mind focal points in the room like a fireplace, sliding glass doors or some other feature. Usually the sofa should orient to face the focal point. Since your primary interest is to locate the sofa in a position that is also good for gaming, look for locations where you are able to bring other seating in close proximity to the sofa.
- 4). Create an L-shaped furniture layout with the sofa as one leg of the L and one or two chairs or a love seat as the other leg of the L. This arrangement allows for two or three people on the sofa and two on the other seating, using a coffee table as the game table.
- 5). Create a U-shaped furniture arrangement with the sofa as the bottom anchor and other seating forming the arms of the U. This expands your sofa arrangement to allow you to seat six or seven people.
- 6). Accessorize your sofa with a lifting gaming table that expands upward to a good playing height. Add end tables for guests to place their drinks and gaming pieces. Include ample lighting over the central table and at each side table. Use floor cushions and mobile ottomans for additional seating that you can move quickly and store under tables when not in use.
