- 1). Plug your two-prong hair iron into an electrical outlet at least 2 minutes before styling your hair.
- 2). Select the correct setting on the iron for your hair type. For fine hair, choose the lowest setting. For thicker hair, choose the highest.
- 3). Coat your hair in volumizing spray to prepare it for contact with the iron and to help it hold the waves better. If your hair already is thick, use a curl-enhancing spray or a heat-protecting spray. Some type of hair product is necessary to help protect your hair against the heat of the wave iron.
- 1). Section hair into small sections about half an inch wide, then clip each section up to keep it out of the way until you're ready for it.
- 2). Put on your heat-resistant gloves for added protection against the hot iron barrels.
- 3). Slide the first section of your hair through the center of the pitchfork, and wrap it around the first barrel.
- 4). Wind the hair through the second barrel, and continue weaving hair into an "S" shape until you reach the tip of the hair strands.
- 5). Hold on to the tip of each section to keep the hair in place while waiting for the hair to wave. There is no clamp on a two-prong hair iron, so hold it tight. This is where those heat-resistant gloves come into play.
- 6). Hold hair in the iron for about 8 seconds, then let go of the tips while slowly pulling the iron away from the hair.
- 7). Repeat the wave process on each section of hair.
