Good Halloween Decorations From Scratch

    Halloween Yard Decorations

    • You can create a variety of homemade yard decorations for Halloween. Make a scarecrow by tying two brooms or two long sticks together into a cross shape and covering the cross with an old adult sweater and pair of pants stuffed with hay. Add a large hat and gloves, and stick the scarecrow in the ground in your front yard. You can also find some old weathered plywood and make a simple sign painted with red paint that reads, "Stay Out!" or "No Humans." Additionally, you could take two long sticks, a pair of gloves, and an old long-sleeved shirt, and make arms bursting out of the ground. Cut the sleeves off of the shirt and stuff them with cotton. Insert the stick into the sleeves, then top with the gloves. Stick both arms into your front yard. Put a fake headstone behind the arms, made from polystyrene foam and painted gray to look like stone.

    Halloween Kitchen Decorations

    • You can also make simple kitchen decorations for Halloween. Fill a large pot or saucepan with cold water, then place four or five pieces of dry ice into the pan to create a bubbling cauldron. Never touch dry ice with bare skin; use tongs, and keep it away from children. Purchase several mason jars and fill each with water tinted with a different hue of food coloring. Insert a toy bug or other figure into each jar and place the jars in a row on the kitchen counter.

    Halloween Table Centerpiece

    • There are ways that you can add a creepy flair to your dining room table. Purchase an inexpensive white plastic tablecloth and some nontoxic red paint. Lay the tablecloth out and cover it with "bloody handprints" and splatters of "blood" made with the paint. Allow the cloth to dry and drape it over your table. Place a tray of old pots and silverware in the center of the table. Cut open an old cotton-stuffed pillow and use the cotton to make thin cobwebs over the pots and silverware. Sprinkle the centerpiece with cinnamon or nutmeg to simulate years of rust and dust.

    Halloween Room Decorations

    • For your room, you can cut out bat and bug shapes from black craft foam and hang them from your ceiling. You can also take some strips of pink fabric, such as felt, fleece or cotton sheets, and sew them into long tubes that resemble intestines. Add some drops and smears of red fabric paint to authenticate the look of guts. You could also find or purchase several old cheap mirrors and place them all over your room. Paint on fake cracks in the mirrors.
