- Moisturizing can't be stressed enough. Without adequate moisture on the skin, even young skin doesn't look good in makeup. Since aging skin experiences a significant loss of moisture, this factor becomes even more important. In addition to a rich night cream and a daily moisturizer applied underneath your makeup, it's best to forego using powder-based makeup. Powder foundations and even powder blush can settle in fine lines on your face, causing a harsh appearance and actually enhance the appearance of wrinkles. Cream blush and liquid foundation work best. Some makeup manufacturers are marketing makeup designed especially for aging skin. Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind is one such line of products.
A moisture rich concealer applied to dark circles and broken capillaries will help brighten the skin while camouflaging the flaws of aging. - As you age, you start to notice the skin around the eye taking on its own set of wrinkles. While they aren't particularly noticeable to others, they are actually enhanced by wearing eye makeup. For this reason, it's imperative to use specific products designed for around the eyes as well as tone down accentuating the eyes. Cream eye shadows work well, and in many cases powder shadows are still viable options if the lids themselves haven't become too creased. A light dusting or smudge of eyeshadow is plenty. Use eyeliner in a subtle way. Aging women shouldn't line their lower lashes, as it can create a hard look. The upper lashes may be lined using a rich, creamy pencil liner in a flattering shade. Black is almost always too severe for aging skin. Browns and grays work well. Be sure to smudge your liner with a sponge tipped applicator.
Mascara is one type of eye makeup that you needn't be stingy with, but stay away from new products that claim to create "dramatic" lashes, as they will make you appear a little bit too dramatic. Stick to basic mascara in black and apply one to two coats. - Blush makes aging skin look younger. Whether pinks, mauves, or peaches are your perfect shades, create a rosy glow by applying blush liberally to the apples of your cheeks. Start at the cheekbones and work back toward the hairline. Be sure to blend the blush well, as no one looks younger with clown cheeks. Adding color to the skin helps aging women look less fatigued and even happier. You may need to reapply your blush once or more throughout the day to keep this look fresh.
Add a light coat of lipstick in a complementary shade (be sure it is moisture-rich) and you'll be ready for almost anything; and looking younger at the same time.
