"Mimic" Movie Franchise

Premise: An insect biologically engineered to kill disease-spreading roaches itself grows into a menace when it evolves into a maneater. And like cockroaches, just when you think you've killed them all, they make a sequel. Mimic was the first Hollywood effort from director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth).
Potential spoilers ahead!

Mimic (1997)

To combat a deadly disease spread by roaches that has struck New York City children, scientist Susan Tyler (Mira Sorvino) combines termite and mantis DNA to create the Judas Breed of insect, which attacks and kills the city's roaches. The Judas Breed are supposed to be sterile, but when a string of disappearances occur a few years later, Susan discovers that they've not only reproduced, but they've grown to human size and can "mimic" the look of humans. She's taken by one of the creatures into the depths of the subway systems, and her husband Peter helps her escape by blowing up the bugs in their main nest. However, the lone fertile male escapes and tracks down Susan, who lures it to its death under the wheels of a speeding train.More »

Mimic 2 (2001)

Sometime after the first film, a Bronx school science teacher named Remy who specializes in bugs is investigated by detective Klaski when men who've come in contact with her begin to turn up dead, with their faces ripped off. She discovers that the culprit is a surviving Judas Breed that wants to breed with her, and it's learned to mimic men she knows by taking their faces. When the bug stalks her in school one night, the military shows up and floods the building with poison gas, while Klaski saves Remy. Or does he...? Turns out the bug mimicked him, and when Remy returns home, the fake Klaski arrives. She cuts its head off with scissors, but since it takes roaches up to nine days to die after decapitation, she has to wait it out.More »

Mimic 3: Sentinel (2003)

He spends his time spying on residents of the building across the street, Rear Window-like. On night, Marvin and Rosy witness something attack the neighborhood drug dealer, but there's no proof. They suspect the creepy neighbor they call "the Garbage Man" (Lance Henriksen) might be involved, and it turns out he's an expert on the Judas Breed who's selling their babies on the black market. When the full-sized bugs emerge to attack, the Garbage Man lures them up to Marvin's apartment, where they kill him, but Marvin kills them by blowing up the apartment while he hides in the fridge.More »
