Are you really shy? Do you have a hard time talking to someone you don't know? Do you have an even harder time talking to girls you don't know? I have been there.
I used to have the worst time talking to strangers.
I would avoid taking speech classes in college, and if a class had a presentation requirement I would avoid that too.
It was hard enough trying to be social in small groups.
And when it came to approaching girls and asking them out -- forget it.
I would freeze up.
It would take me awhile to even get to know a girl well enough to make small talk without stammering and making a fool out of myself.
So when it came time to ask her out -- well it just never happened.
I spent my adolescence and most of my college years letting my shyness stand in the way of my entire social life.
Sure, I had friends, but they were just like me.
And if they were more social than me, I would just fade into the background.
I think I only had relationships with girls because they saw me as harmless and didn't even consider me as someone they could be interested in.
One day when I was in college I decided that I wasn't going to let my shyness get in the way anymore.
That even if I couldn't get over my fear of public speaking, that I could at least get over my fear of talking one-on-one with cute girls.
I knew I was going to have to get out of my comfort zone and just do it already.
Here's what I did.
I challenged myself to smile and say hi to every girl I passed when I was walking across campus.
I'm not going to lie -- it was hard at first.
But once a girl makes eye contact it is actually easier.
Girls are conditioned to be nice to everyone, and they are not going to blow you off just because you said hi.
They will say hi back.
