The Defendant:
Oscar Lobo-Lopez, 30, of Springfield, Virginia.
The Charges:
Lobo-Lopez was charged with conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering activity, murder in aid of racketeering activity, and use of a firearm during a crime of violence causing death.
The Case:
Oscar Omar Lobo-Lopez and Sergio Amador, members of the Mara Salvatrucha or MS-13 gang, fatally shot Melvin Reyes, a suspected rival gang member, on May 5, 2007, in Springfield, VA.
Reyes, also known as APelon reportedly of the rival 18th Street gang, had seven gunshot wounds at the time of his death.
The Conviction:
On April 21, 2009, following a one-week jury trial, a jury found Lobo-Lopez guilty of all charges.
The Sentence:
Lobo-Lopez was given consecutive sentences of life imprisonment followed by ten years in federal prison. Amador was previously sentenced to life in prison.
