- A custom guitar case should speak to your personality.case image by Aleksandr Lobanov from Fotolia.com
Everyone likes to add custom touches to their favorite guitar. A new set of pickups, special inlays or even a new paint job. However, when you show up at the gig, your awesome guitar is typically in a plain-Jane guitar case. If you have taken the time to spice up your guitar, take time to customize the case it travels in. It will increase the "wow" factor and speak volumes about your personality as a musician. - Stencil your name, your guitar's name or even your band's name on the outside of your guitar case in white paint. Most commonly, the road crew that transports music equipment for bands from one city to the next does this so they can easily identify the equipment that belongs to their band. This will give the appearance that you are ready for your world tour.
- Add a complete face lift to your guitar case by covering the boring black Tolex covering with a custom color or texture. For example, you can give your case the look of a vintage snakeskin with a few yards of snakeskin Tolex and glue.
- Install covers on the corners of your guitar case that match the covers on your guitar amplifier. Matching accessories shows attention to detail and gives your equipment a streamlined look. Most amplifier manufactures sell replacement parts for their amplifiers. Replacement corners will be available through them. Metal corner covers will also protect your case from being abused during tours.
- Today's massed-produced cases use low-grade materials and the fabric used inside of the case is no exception. Often the dye used on the fabric can rub off and get onto the guitar. Removing the cheap fabric from inside the case and replacing it with a custom crushed-velvet material will make you guitar appear as if it cost thousands. In the 1970s, high-end guitars commonly came in cases that had red crushed-velvet and purple crushed-velvet interiors.
