- 1). Complete your required continuing professional education units. These CPE units may include professional development conferences or workshops, education credits from an accredited institution or mentoring activities. The number of CPE units you must complete will vary depending on your specific career. For example, counselors need 200 hours. Contact the SBEC if you are unsure of your requirements.
- 2). Go to the website of the State Board for Educator Certification. Click on "Educator Login."
- 3). Enter your username and password and click "Login." If you have never used the online system before, click "Create New Account."
- 4). Scan the list of links on the main menu when you are logged in. Click on "Applications."
- 5). Click on "Renew a Standard Certificate."
- 6). Follow the onscreen prompts to request a certificate renewal and pay the fee with a credit or debit card. As of 2010, the renewal fee is $20, according to the SBEC's Educator Certification Online System. If you are an educational aide, the renewal fee is $10. If you have allowed your certificate to expire, you will be charged a late fee and an activation fee. The amount of these fees may vary.
