September 2012 Festivals in Indianapolis

The weather is beginning to cool, creating a perfect environment for fall festivals and there's no lack of festivals in the month of September in the Indianapolis area. Whether you're into art, different cultures or wine, there's bound to be a festival that's perfect for you. This list includes some of the most popular Indy festivals for the entire year.

German-American Klub 2012 Oktoberfest


Dive deep into German culture with the German-American Klub Oktoberfest. This weekend festival offers plenty of live entertainment for both adults and children. Experience German food and beers. There's even carnival rides and a root bier tent for the kids! Admission is $5 and children 12 and under are free.

Indianapolis Chinese Festival


The 2012 Indianapolis Chinese Festival marks the importance of Chinese culture in Indianapolis. This year's festival will include plenty of fun activities for the entire family. Watch the traditional Dragon & Lion dance, take free Tai Chi lessons and snack on Asian food while the little ones play in the Children's Area. There will be plenty of Chinese cultural exhibits, vendors and even a Lantern Ceremony.

The Chinese Festival is held at Military Park. Admission is free.

Indianapolis Greek Festival


For a piece of Greece right in Indianapolis, you won't want to miss the Indianapolis Greek Festival. The festival will feature lively entertainment, cultural exhibits and lots of tasty foods. Tickets are $7 at the gate or $5 in advance at participating Marsh stores or at the church office until September 8. Free admission on Saturday, September 8, between 12 - 4 p.m. with three can goods to benefit Crop Walk.Children 12 and under are free.

Penrod Art Fair


A long-standing Indianapolis tradition, the Penrod Arts Fair celebrates its 45th year. This one day arts festival features over 300 artists, 50 arts-related organizations, six stages of entertainment and an extensive children's area. Tickets are $12 in advance at the Indianapolis Art Museum, Mainstreet Markets, Hubbard and Cravens and Marsh. Tickets are $15 at the door. Children 10 and under are free.

French Market at St. Joan of Arc Parish

Indy Jazz Fest


Indy Jazz Fest is a week-long event that combines a weekday indoor show, followed by a two day outdoor festival at OptiPark. This year's festival features some great acts including Clarke/Duke 4, Brian Culbertson, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Robert Glasper Experiment, Gerald Albright and many more! You may purchase tickets for single shows or week-long passes on the Indy Jazz Fest website. If you'd like to catch several shows, the JazzPASS might be for you. Get a week-long pass to attend all the shows for $139.

Indy Irishfest


Get your Irish up at the 17th annual Indy Irish Fest. This year, the festival has added an extra day, starting on Thursday, September 13 and ending on Sunday, September 16. The four day festival includes three stages of entertainment, plenty of activities such as Kilted Mile and a kids play area. Take home a souvenir from the Irish Market tents and enjoy favorite Irish dishes from local vendors. Tickets are $15 at the gate, $10 when purchased in advance online or at Claddagh Irish pubs, O'Malia's, Marsh Supermarkets, O'Brien Automotive Family Dealerships and The Golden Ace Inn. Students age 14-18 are admitted for $10 with a student ID. Children 13 and under are free.

32nd Annual FIESTA Indianapolis


FIESTA is Indiana's largest Hispanic celebration, hosting over 30,000 visitors a year. The festival celebrates the music, food and culture of the countries of the Americas. The event features local, state and national vendors. Enjoy authentic food, dancing, music and much more. Admission to FIESTA is free.

STEAM! Innovation Fair


Technology of the past meets innovations of the future at the amazing and family-friendly STEAM! Innovation Fair at Conner Prairie. The fair celebrates innovations of the past and present in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math. Meet some of the region’s top scientists, artisans and inventors as they demonstrate their creations. Test your own skills through hands-on activities and DIY exhibits. Journey back in time through a parade of antique tractors and steam engines and enjoy a day of food, games and family fun! Admission is $14 for adults; $13 for seniors 65 +, $9 for youth (ages 2-12). Admission is free for members and youth under 2.

Fishers Oktoberfest


Celebrate Germany with the Fishers Oktoberfest. Activities include food vendors, arts and craft vendors, kids games and activities. There is no admission, but this is a fundraising event to support Good Samaritan of Hamilton County. There will be a canned food and toy drive for those in need in the area.
