- 1). Stay at the Bern International Hostel, which is run by Hostelling International. This is a popular place that is located down near the river. The distance can be walked from the train station, but there is a cog cable car installed that will take you up and down the cliff. It is part of the public transportation system. The cable car can save you from a very steep climb.
- 2). Visit the old town. This part of town is great for window shopping as the items for sale can be quite expensive. There are lots of popular restaurants here and free entertainment in the form of some spunky street musicians.
- 3). Visit the Bern Art Museum. It is located downtown, not too far from the train station. There is a very good collection of modern European art that includes the home-grown talent of Paul Klee.
- 4). Visit the Paul Klee Center. This beautiful art space is dedicated to Paul Klee, who was born in Bern. This building and the extensive art space that resides inside it is the reason why many people come here. A public bus that says "Zentrum Paul Klee" will take you right there.
