DIY Hunter Ceiling Fans

    • 1). Turn off the power to the old fixture at the house circuit box. Remove the fixture by taking out the screws that hold it to the electrical box. Disconnect the wires between the fixture and the box by untwisting the wire caps. You are left with three wires hanging from the box: black, white and bare copper.

    • 2). Locate the mounting bracket that came with the Hunter ceiling fan. It is a metal disk the same size as the base of the fan, and rt is full of holes. It also has a small hook and a green grounding screw. Hold the mounting bracket up to the electrical box, lining up the screw holes. Mount the bracket to the box using the provided screws.

    • 3). Wrap the bare copper ground wire from the electrical box around the green grounding screw on the bracket. Tighten the screw.

    • 4). Assemble the Hunter ceiling fan on the floor, putting together the whole unit except the fan blades. Walk it up the ladder. Hang the fan motor housing from the hook that's on the mounting bracket so the unit is hanging sides from the bracket, and the exposed wires from inside the unit are next to the wires from the electrical box.

    • 5). Connect the white wire from the fan to the white wire from the box, holding the two wires next to each other and twisting a wire cap over the two of them. Do the same for the two black wires. If you Hunter fan includes a light, there will be a blue wire as well; connect the blue wire together with the black wires.

    • 6). Lift the fan housing to the mounting bracket, pushing the wire connections into the electrical box as you do. Line up the screw holes of the fan canopy to those of the mounting bracket. Insert the provided screws to mount the fan unit.

    • 7). Turn on the power and test the motor and light. If everything works, then attach the fan blades, using the provided screws and washers.
