How to Hide an Out of the Wall Air Conditioner

    • 1). Hide the out of wall air conditioner with a lattice fence. Dig a shallow trench along the outside of the unit, fill with cement and stick the lattice into place. Use lattice that’s several feet higher than the unit. Include a gate for access. Plant vines such as ivy, which will fill in the holes in the lattice, providing additional coverage. Solid fencing such as wood or plastic picket provide an additional option.

    • 2). Surround the out of wall air conditioner with tall plants that create a barrier around it, hiding it from view. Stick to evergreen bushes, such as juniper or arborvitae, which give coverage throughout the year. Use plants such as ornamental grasses or rose bushes for another option. Leave a gap for access.

    • 3). Build an extension to the home or building where the out of wall air conditioner sits. Create two walls on either side that extend outward. Build a third wall with a gate to connect the two side walls.Finish the walls with materials that match the building, so it blends in seamlessly.
