How to Boil Pure Water Out of Seawater

    • 1). Fill the boiling flask 1/2 full with seawater and place it in the heating mantle. Connect the distilling neck and condensing tube to the top of the boiling flask. Place the glass beaker at the bottom of the condensing tube.

    • 2). Turn the heating mantle setting to the middle setting and observe the temperature on the thermometer. As the temperature approaches 212 degrees, water vapor will begin to drift up the distillation neck and into the condensing tube. Maintain the temperature between 212 and 215 degrees using the heating mantle setting.

    • 3). Collect the pure water in the glass beaker. Once there is no more water left in the boiling flask, turn the heating mantle off and allow the system to cool. The collected water will be pure water with no salt.
