- 1). Put on a pair of rubber gloves.
- 2). Using shop rags, wipe the leather chest down with acetone. Continue until the leather appears dulled. Let the chest dry for one hour.
- 3). Sand the leather chest. Gently scour the leather with a fine-grit sandpaper. Don't overdo it. Stop when the leather feels slightly roughened.
- 4). Wipe the chest with acetone. Let the leather dry for another hour.
- 1). Take the leather chest to a ventilated spot. Place it on a fabric dropcloth. Place painter's tape over any buckles, hinges or hasps.
- 2). Coat the leather chest with latex spray primer. Maintain approximately 8 inches between the leather and spray tip as you apply. This will prevent unsightly sagging. Let the leather dry for two hours.
- 3). Paint the leather chest as you primed it. Use an acrylic topcoat. Let the leather dry for two hours.
