- 1). Purchase high quality paints--budget priced paint is harder to work with and won't give you a smooth or durable finish.
- 2). Use a high quality brush with flagged bristles. This means the tips of the bristles are split, allowing the paint to flow on much more smoothly.
- 3). Avoid painting or touching up paint over existing partially-dried paint. Wait for the first coat to dry completely before applying another coat.
- 4). Cut in (brush) all the edges before rolling walls or trim. If you brush after you've rolled, you're more likely to see brush strokes.
- 5). Add paint conditioner, available at most paint and home supply stores, to the paint. This retards the drying of paint so it doesn't dry too quickly while you work. Conditioner also improves the flow, so you're less likely to see applicator marks.
