- 1). Before using any software besides iTunes to transfer music to an iPod, connect the iPod to the computer's USB port and run iTunes. Click on the connected iPod device and then click on the "Settings" tab. Scroll down to the "Options" area and click to remove the check mark from the box next to "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached." Make sure "Enable disk use" is checked and click "Apply."
- 2). Download and install Floola. Floola is available for PC, Mac and Linux operating systems. Plug the iPod into the computer's USB port and run Floola. Press "Ctrl"+"Shift"+"A" on the keyboard to begin transferring music to an iPod. Drag files from the computer and drop them into the Floola window that contains a green arrow. Mac users can just drag and drop files to the Floola icon in the dock menu.
- 3). Download YamiPod. YamiPod is available for PC, Mac and Linux operating systems. Connect the iPod to the computer's USB port. Drag the .dmg file from the hard drive onto the iPod device. Windows users should open the YamiPod .zip file and then drag the YamiPod .exe file from the .zip file and drop it onto the iPod device. Run the YamiPod program from the iPod. From the YamiPod main program screen, drag and drop files from the hard drive into the bottom section of the YamiPod program window.
- 4). Download Songbird, a freeware program available for PC, Mac and Linux operating systems. Install the program and make sure to put a check mark in the box that says, "Songbird iPod Device Support." Run Songbird and click "Yes" to change libraries from iTunes. Click the "iPod" tab at the top of the screen and choose how the program should update information on the iPod device. Then just drag and drop songs from the hard drive and onto the iPod device listed in the left-hand Songbird window pane.
