- 1). Plant Korean spice viburnum in spring or fall. Provide a location with full sun or partial shade and a well-drained, moist, moderately fertile soil.
- 2). Water the shrub thoroughly.
- 3). Use a shovel to dig a hole as deep as the container or root ball and twice as wide. Set the plant in its container in the hole to make sure the hole is deep enough. Place a stick across the hole to make sure the soil level in the container is even with the surrounding soil.
- 4). Remove the shrub from its container or cut away the burlap if it is a balled and burlaped shrub. If a container-grown shrub has roots encircling the root ball, spread them out by hand if you can. If you can't loosen the roots, make two to four vertical cuts the length of the root ball and 2 inches deep to prevent the encircling roots from strangling the shrub.
- 5). Place the shrub in the hole and fill around the sides with soil. Firm the soil gently as you go until the soil in the hole is level with the surrounding soil. Don't mound the soil around the base of the shrub.
- 6). Apply a 2- to 4-inch layer of mulch around the shrub to preserve moisture and cut down on weeds.
