How to Make a Close All Programs .Bat File

    • 1). Start all programs that you commonly need to close.

    • 2). Hold the "Ctrl," "Shift" and "Escape" keys consecutively to open Task Manager.

    • 3). Click the "Processes" tab. If you do not understand the nature and purpose of the Windows system services, do not click the "Show Processes from All Users" button, as this will expose some processes that cannot be closed.

    • 4). Minimize the Task Manager. Click "Start," type "Note" and press "Enter." This opens Windows Notepad Editor.

    • 5). Bring the Task Manager back up, and select the "Image Name" column. This action alphabetically sorts your processes. Look at the "User Name" column. All tasks listed next to your Windows username can be closed.

    • 6). Maximize the Notepad tool, and type the commands below in to the editor. Replace "AppName.exe" with the names of the programs listed in the "Image Name" column of your Task Manager.

      taskkill /im AppName.exe

      taskkill /im AppName.exe

      taskkill /im AppName.exe

    • 7). Make as many Taskkill commands as you need to close all desired programs. It might be helpful and faster to position both your Task Manager and Notepad so they both display on the screen simultaneously.

    • 8). Click "File" and select the "Save as..." option. This opens a Save dialog. Erase the "*.txt" extension in the "File name" field, and replace it with a name for your script followed by the .BAT extension. For example, you might name the file "Close All Programs.bat" or "KillAll.bat."

    • 9). Click "Save as type," and select "All Files," then click the "OK" button. Navigate to where you saved the batch file.

    • 10

Double-click the batch file to run your new script. A Command Prompt window will briefly display and all programs will close. In the future, not all programs you have provided in this batch file have to be running for this script to work. If any programs listed in the script are not running, the operating system will simply move on to the next one in your list.
