- You can make cleaning solutions for ceramic tile.ceramic tile image by Karin Lau from Fotolia.com
Ceramic tile can be used over the more popular porcelain tile to create a warm and homey atmosphere. Ceramic tile has a porous surface, so it cannot be cleanedwith bleach or ammonia products. Homeowners should also avoid using steel wool or abrasive cleaning instruments. Glazed ceramic tile is much easier to clean in the shower than unglazed ceramic tile, which attracts dirt and hard water easily. - If the shower walls are soiled, mix a gallon of water with a few drops of mild liquid dish washing detergent. The liquid detergent will help remove oil buildup on the walls of the shower. Apply the solution with a soft sponge or paper towel. Use a toothbrush to gently brush the grout if it is soiled or stained.
- If the shower walls are heavily soiled, mix ¼ cup white vinegar with seven cups of water and two teaspoons of baking soda in an empty spray bottle. Shake the spray bottle until the mixture is fully blended and the baking soda has completely dissolved in the solution. Spray the solution on the dirty ceramic shower tiles and wipe them with a clean cloth, sponge or paper towel. Gently brush the solution on the surface of the grout if it is soiled.
- If your shower walls are dull, spray club soda on the surface of the tile. Buff each ceramic shower tile with a clean paper towel, cloth or a soft sponge by wiping in a circular motion. This will help restore sparkle to your shower tiles by removing the excess scum and oil residue on the tile's surface.
