More Athletes to Watch: They may not hail from the state, but there are several athletes set to compete in the 2014 Sochi Olympics who play a sport or train in Michigan.
Hometown Heroes
These athletes were born and/or raised in Michigan, whether it be in the Metro-Detroit area or another community. They may or may not still train in the state, but their ties go well beyond their individual sport.
Ice Dancing: Evan Bates
Evan Bates competed with Emily Samuelson (from Southfield, Michigan) at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Evan Bates will compete with Madison Chock. The pair won the Silver Medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and currently train at Novi Ice Arena.
Evan is from the Metro-Detroit area and roots for the Red Wings. He was born and raised in Ann Arbor and graduated from the University of Michigan in December of 2013. While Evan is all about the Maize and Blue, his grandfather played basketball for MSU.

Ice Dancing: Meryl Davis and Charlie White
Meryl Davis and partner Charlie White were both born and raised in Metro Detroit, attend the University of Michigan and train in Canton. Meryl and Charlie earned a silver medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The pair went on to earn the gold medal in Ice Dancing at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which earned them a spot on the 2014 U.S. Winter Olympic Team.

Men's Ice Hockey: Dan Bylsma
Dan Bylsma grew up in Grand Haven, where he rooted for the Red Wings and Blackhawks. These days he is the coach for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the head coach of the U.S. Team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Cam Fowler (defense) was born in Windsor, Ontario but grew up in Farmington Hills. He played for the Honeybaked Midget Minor team (AAA) of Michigan and spent the last two years of high school in the USA Hockey Development Program in Ann Arbor. Fowler currently plays for the Anaheim Ducks.

Nick Baumgartner was born and raised in Iron River, a small town in the Upper Peninsula. According to Nick's official website, he attended Northern Michigan University, where he played football. In addition to his success in snowboarding, he has won state championships and accolades in wrestling, hurdling and football.
