- 1). Furnish your space with refinished secondhand pieces. New pieces are often more expensive than quality older ones. Sometimes, even not-so-high-quality pieces can take on a luxurious look with simply a coat of paint, a small repair or a new layer of inexpensive fabric upholstery. Do not be afraid to scour thrift stores and flea markets to find a diamond in the rough.
- 2). Add quality products to your space in small, affordable amounts. To make your home look luxurious, it can often be more about quality than quantity. This should be done in the form of Venetian plaster, designer wallpaper, custom flooring or even furniture. For example, a small half-bathroom with marble tile can show an attention to detail that may enhance the overall value of your home.
- 3). Commit to being as hands-on as possible with the workload. Much of the time, the bulk of the cost of a luxurious home feature is in the labor it took to create it. If you are willing to get your hands dirty and do the work on your own, you can create a much more custom and personalized result --- even if it takes more time and effort.
- 4). Refinish appliances, flooring or any other area in your home that is looking scratched and faded. Something as simple as a new coat of paint, an update to a light switch or a layer of polyurethane to a wood floor can add a sense of quality to a room instantly.
