How to Paint a BMX Bike

    • 1). Take everything off of the frame, including the pedals, chains, guards, wheels and seat.

    • 2). Apply the paint stripper to the frame with a rag. Wait a few minutes. The time will vary depending on the type and quality of stripper used. Read the instructions on the stripper can carefully.

    • 3). Rinse the stripper from the frame with water. Brush off any flakes of paint that are still left. If there is any paint left on the frame, repeat Steps 2 and 3.

    • 4). Apply Metal prep or Alumiprep to the bare metal with the rag. Use Metalprep for frames made out of steel and Alumiprep for bikes made from aluminum.

    • 5). Degrease the bike. Pour the degreaser on a rag and wipe the entire frame. Scrub joints and connection areas thoroughly.

    • 6). Apply the primer. Spray lightly and evenly over the entire frame. Wait half an hour and check that the primer is dry. If it is still wet, check periodically until dry.

    • 7). Paint the bike. Spray evenly over the entire frame. Don't spray too heavily, or runs in the paint will occur. Wait for the paint to dry as with the primer.

    • 8). Apply the polyurethane topcoat with the spray gun. Let the polyurethane dry for three days.

    • 9). Reassemble the bike and show it off.
